Cerberus Appoints Lieutenant General Joe Hartman, U.S. Army (Ret.) as Senior Managing Director of Supply Chain Investment Platform
NEW YORK, August 3, 2026 – Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. (“Cerberus”), a global alternative investment firm with approximately $70 billion in assets, today announced that Lieutenant General Joe Hartman, U.S. Army (Ret.), has joined the firm as a Senior Managing Director on its Supply Chain investment platform.
General Hartman is a key leadership addition to Cerberus’ dedicated Supply Chain team, which operates a distinctive model bringing together senior leaders from across investing, government and policy, technology, and operations. This appointment further strengthens the cross-functional team at Cerberus as it continues to invest across critical domains supporting national security, technology leadership, and supply chain resilience. As part of this mission-driven team, General Hartman will help Cerberus identify and pursue investment opportunities in sectors increasingly important to the U.S. and its allies, including cyber, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and other advanced technologies.

General Hartman joins Cerberus after a 37-year career in the U.S. Army, culminating in his service as Acting Commander of U.S. Cyber Command and Acting Director of the National Security Agency (NSA). In these roles, he worked with senior leaders across the U.S. government, intelligence community, allied partners, and a wide range of commercial industries to conduct global cyber and intelligence operations and advance national security priorities.

Prior to leading U.S. Cyber Command and the NSA, General Hartman served as Deputy Commander of U.S. Cyber Command and Commander of the Cyber National Mission Force. He also held senior leadership assignments across cyber operations, intelligence, special operations, and strategic planning organizations, including roles within U.S. Army Cyber Command, the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, and the Joint Special Operations Command. Throughout his career, General Hartman has focused on integrating advanced technologies and operational capabilities to address evolving national security challenges. He is a graduate of the School of Advanced Military Studies, a former Central Intelligence Agency fellow and a Distinguished Member of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
